Cleanaway Truck well inside the 1 metre safe distance

Melbourne, Australia

22 Jul, 2025 - 11 months ago - on Frankston - Flinders Road

I had just dropped my car off for a service, no problem it’s just a few minutes to home, I’ll take my bike and ride back.
Staying as close to the left as possible I felt the wind force of this close encounter. From the 4 sec clip, the driver decided not to slow up despite the white tray Ute on the opposite side of the road & remaining inside his lane came dangerously close.
I reported this to Cleanaway Operations & after a month hearing nothing went to the Police with the evidence including the exact truck & road width and my video clip. They told me the charge would be a ‘failing to give way’ and would I be prepared to go to court if they challenged it not that they would be likely to do so, particularly a big company, would be costly & potentially more public.
I said I was more interested in the driver/company being told and more likely than not next time they think twice about such dangerous driving and oh, “ let me think about it, maybe this cyclist had video too, like the last bloke!”
Anyway, the very next day I get a call from a branch manager. He explained to me the driver has been reprimanded and they take safety and their drivers actions very seriously; hence all branches have received been informed. Well I can’t be sure to what extent this message gets through but nothing was happening without this footage.
