Close Call on N 73rd Street

I was riding northbound in the shoulder on N 73rd Street just north of Niwot Rd in Boulder County, unaware as to what was unravelling behind me. The driver of a white VW sedan passed a farm truck in perhaps a not-so-safe manner. Then, while a cyclist on a time-trial bike was attempting to pass me by taking the lane, the VW driver chose to pass both of us by moving into the oncoming lane with cyclists in the opposite shoulder as well as vehicles oncoming. Those oncoming vehicles were forced into the shoulder to allow this VW driver to pass and, fortunately, there were no cyclists in the shoulder as they avoided the VW. A triathlon was taking place in the area and it was a gorgeous Saturday morning so the roads and bike paths were all quite busy. The cyclist on the time-trial bike was, expectedly, quite upset and yelled and gave the finger to the reckless VW driver. This could easily have become a fatal crash if things had gone sideways.
