While driving down Allen Street in Hampden, MA, I spotted a young driver creeping toward the exit of a shopping center. His hesitation was clear—he saw me coming. For a moment, it looked like he was going to do the right thing and wait. But then, as if second-guessing common sense, he nosed his car out anyway, straight into my path. I couldn’t believe it. There was no ambiguity: I was close, I was visible, and yet somehow, he decided his impatience outweighed caution.
