Left hook near miss

Manchester, United Kingdom

13 Mar, 2026 - 3 months ago - on Wilmslow Road

I was cycling in a clearly marked bike lane and intended to turn left at the traffic lights. There were three cars in the queue, two were signalling left, one was not. I slotted into the queue near the car that wasn't signalling, as i believed it intended to go straight on.

This car then turned left without warning. As this then meant I was in danger of being hit by the car or going into the railings, I hit the car to warn the driver.

The driver stopped immediately and realised their error and was very apologetic.

I am sharing this video to warn road users to be careful when turning across cycle lanes. Cyclists have priority. Do not turn across them without signalling or giving way.

There are plans to turn this junction into a "cyclops" junction. I hope so, as it will make it much safer.
