To anyone wondering why cyclists sometimes occupy the middle of the lane; it's to stop this kind of close pass.

I usually occupy the middle of the lane to try to avoid this, but forgot this time.

I doubt this driver was deliberately trying to endanger me, but that's the effect. The driver could easily have waited about 5 seconds and overtaken safely but didn't plan that far ahead.

The MET take cycling close passes very seriously, and regularly dish out points or fines with mandatory driving improvement courses.
