Why *that* particular spot?

Guy's been following for 30 seconds or so, and decides to overtake right into oncoming traffic - arguably could have overtaken 5-10 seconds earlier if he'd been paying attention.  15 seconds later, another fairly clear road (and I caught up with him again within a minute anyway).
